Over 300 ophthalmologists attended the fifth annual Ophthalmology Updates! Conference held at the Fullerton Hotel, Sydney on 27-28 August 2022. This was the first major face-to-face ophthalmic meeting in almost three years since the outbreak of COVID-19, and it was heartwarming to see each other again in person. 2022 was also a special year, because Ophthalmology Updates! joined with NSW RANZCO for their Annual Scientific Meeting. This unique collaboration was a unqualified success, and brought us all together. Special invited Updates! speakers included Professor Adnan Tufail from Moorfields Hospital, London and Associate Professor Daniel Ting from the Singapore National Eye Centre, who both spoke on how artificial intelligence is disrupting the field of ophthalmology and medicine. Professor Helen Danesh-Meyer brought her usual energy to making the field of neuro-ophthalmology exciting. She covered unexplained visual loss and acute optic neuropathies. Other key Updates! speakers included Dr John Males on EDOF IOLs, Dr Ming-Lee on pseudophakic CMO, Dr Thomas Hardy on benign eyelid lesions and Dr Ridia Lim on artefacts in glaucoma testing. On Saturday night there was a wonderful private dinner at Restaurant Hubert.
